Unlocking Heritage: Bold & Inclusive Digital Storytelling
Join us to hear from Dr Anna Rutherford, Director of Design West and audio producer, present the Hidden Bristol app.
Event Description
How can digital technology engage new audiences with heritage?
Faced with a city in lockdown, in Spring 2020 Bristol Open Doors threw festival plans out of the window, innovating in the face of challenge, to create covid-safe ‘audio adventures’ for the streets of Bristol.
Co-created with a cast of >100 Bristolians, and built for a new App ‘Hidden Bristol’, the digital tours were a bold response to a city simmering with black lives matter, social isolation and urgent conversations about which heritage we value.
Designed to engage new and diverse audiences, whilst uncovering stories so often lost from history, the tours proved a huge success with audiences in 2020 and 2021.
Learn about how the app and tours were made, the challenges, successes and opportunities for digital tech in keeping heritage relevant.
