The Migration Museum: The Journey So Far

This online talk will begin with a brief summary of the development of the Migration Museum from 2013 to today, including the organisation’s vision, mission and activities, and the wider remit of the Migration Network.

Our speakers will then focus on the development of the Museum’s Peoples Panel and Network, co-created engagement values, and the development of a co-production Toolkit.

The Migration Museum is currently based in Lewisham, south-east London but is planning a big move to a new, permanent home in the City of London. The team will share their plans for the museum’s relocation, talk through the ongoing consultation process, their plans for national migration hubs, and much more.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to feedback on the toolkit and the museum’s plans for a permanent, and sign up to the Network. The session will end with Q+A, facilitated by the SWFed host.

About the speakers:

Emily Miller, Partnerships Director, oversees the museum’s national reach and partnerships as well as leading the Migration Network which brings together organisations from the UK heritage sector and beyond to facilitate dialogue and increase confidence about working on migration and intersecting themes. She’s been with the museum since 2013 and is a trustee at Migrateful in her spare time.

Mona Jamil, Museum Manager, is a community-oriented coordinator with experience in co-production. She has been a part of the Migration Museum since 2016, and manages the museum’s volunteering and placement schemes, community engagement initiatives, and front of house team. She has previously worked with people seeking sanctuary in a number of capacities, and is a trustee at Refugee Cafe.
