Creating Young V&A
Young V&A (formerly the Museum of Childhood) opened its doors in July 2023 after a £13m refurbishment project and rebrand. Housed in a Victorian workhouse in London’s Bethnal Green, the building’s cavernous interior has been completely transformed into themed galleries, hands-on play areas and workshop spaces. The museum takes a new approach to displaying its permanent collection, which was started 1872, and includes a gallery for a programme of changing exhibitions.
Members of the project team will give an insight into the development of the newly opened Young V&A, which had co-design at its heart. They will cover how objects and themes were chosen for their target audiences, how these objects have been interpreted, and share their learning from the integrated co-design process.
