Centring the community in a cost-of-living crisis
Event Description
This month we hear from Melissa Maynard, the interim Director of the London Museum of Water and Steam. They are a key supporter of the Hounslow community, working in partnership with different groups and the Borough Council. We will have a discussion around our values and our work to support our visitors and community groups in a cost of living crisis.
Melissa has a background in learning, visitors, and community engagement. She has worked in small independent museums and the National Trust. Whilst she is the interim Director of London Museum of Water and Steam, she also runs her own consultancy.
We will also hear from Eleanor Root, Collections + Learning Curator (Community) at Colchester + Ipswich Museums.
Eleanor is a passionate advocate for working in active partnership with communities and is a self-confessed evaluation geek. She was inspired to create a working document filled with ideas to help cultural organisations support their local communities.
As the cost of living crisis continues to bite in the UK and communities face increasing hardships Eleanor Root’s now widely circulated Google Doc entitled “How can museums support people through the cost of living crisis?” couldn’t have come at a better time.
Tickets are £2.75 and are available for members only.
